Curzon Extension B

Curzon B is the next phase of development on Birmingham City University’s City Centre Campus in the ‘Eastside’ area of Birmingham.

The new 10,000sq.m canal side building will extensively expand the existing Curzon Campus to provide a variety of formal and informal teaching and learning spaces for a further 3,000 students. At the heart will be a new collaborative group working lecture theatre and flexible teaching spaces that complement the existing facilities and form a central teaching hub. This will be surrounded by large Open Learning Zones providing spaces that are suitable for both quiet and loud study, taking advantage of views out onto the canal. A research centre is also included, as well as further support areas such as offices and an extension to the Students’ Union.

Opportunities

We have worked with BCU students on our projects offering students summer placements to help them gain some real hands on experience in the construction industry.

These new projects have opened up thousands of jobs for people living in Birmingham and the surrounding area. The majority of our materials are sourced from local suppliers and we have invested thousands of pounds back into local businesses.

Willmott Dixon – Impact on The Local Area

Phase one of the Eastside project, saw Willmott Dixon invest £25 million in using local companies within a 20-mile radius of the site. During the construction of The Curzon Building, this project sustained 1,300 jobs around Birmingham, and we created 46 new jobs for trainees, apprentices and people looking for employment.

We also invested £1 million into the 4Life Academy in Perry Bar, which has prepared over 2,000 people for work. Students, staff and visitors to the new campus benefit from nearby transport links, including the redeveloped New Street station and the proposed high speed rail link.
